The Alberni Valley Bulldogs did not have an ideal weekend, with losses against the Nanaimo Clippers and Victoria Grizzlies to end their road trip.
The ‘Dogs gave up three powerplay goals in a 4-0 shutout loss to the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday, Nov. 25. Although goaltender John Hawthorne kicked away 34 shots, the Bulldogs were not able to generate any offense to make up for the four Nanaimo goals.
The Bulldogs didn’t seem to have this problem in Victoria on Sunday, taking a 3-2 lead into the second period against the Victoria Grizzlies. Two minutes into the second, it was 5-2 Bulldogs.
But the Grizzlies retaliated with three unanswered goals. They topped it off with two more in the third period, before sealing the game with an empty netter and finishing 8-5.
Next week the Bulldogs will be back in town for a Saturday, Dec. 2 game against the Penticton Vees. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. This is the Five Hole for Food Event, so be sure to bring a non-perishable food item to donate.
Sunday, Dec. 3 is the Teddy Bear Toss in a matinee game against the Surrey Eagles. Make sure you bring a stuffed animal to toss onto the ice when the ‘Dogs score their first goal. Puck drop is at 2 p.m.
