BCHL extra: Scholarships keep coming for junior A skaters

Nanaimo Clippers goaltender Billy Faust scored a scholarship from the University of Vermont Catamounts.

Nanaimo Clippers goaltender Billy Faust is the latest BCHL star to net an NCAA scholarship, committing to the University of Vermont Catamounts for the fall of 2012.

The California native has compiled a 20-21 record this year with a 2.88 goals-against average and .912 save percentage. In 68 BCHL games over the last three seasons, he is 32-28.

“Billy has been a solid member of our hockey club both on and off the ice and is very deserving of this opportunity,” said Clippers head coach Mike Vandekamp. “The University of Vermont will be a great place for him to develop as a player while obtaining a top notch education.”

The Catamounts play in the NCAA Division I Hockey East conference, and have produced current National Hockey Leaguers  Martin St. Louis and Tim Thomas.

Meanwhile, Powell River Kings forward Cohen Adair has committed to Northern Michigan University for 2012.

After receiving offers from several highly regarded NCAA programs, the Ontario native is excited to continue his post-BCHL career with the Northern Michigan Wildcats.

“The Wildcats hockey program’s coaching staff is established and is well respected,” he said. “The program has a strong history and is in a strong conference within the NCAA. The team has a great track record with BCHL players and the school has a strong computer science faculty.”

Adair will be pursuing his passion for computer programming with a degree in computer science with a goal of working for a gaming company in the future.

Earlier last week, Surrey Eagles goalie Andrew Hunt committed to Clarkson University for 2012.

Clarkson University is located in Potsdam, New York and is a small private university with a student population of around 3,000.

The Clarkson University Golden Knights are a traditional powerhouse in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
