BCHL Grizzlies force game 7 back in Colwood with comeback win

Nick Guiney scores winner and insurance goal in third period in Powell River

Faced with a must-win situation in Powell River on Saturday night, the Victoria Grizzlies dug deep and showed the Kings they weren’t going quietly.

After falling behind 2-0 by the first intermission, the Grizzlies scored the next four goals to beat Powell River 4-2 in game 6 of the B.C. Hockey League Island final.

The victory forced game 7 in the series, set for 7 p.m. Monday (March 27) at The Q Centre in Colwood. Tickets are available at victoriagrizzlies.com or by calling 250-385-1555 or by stopping down at the Grizzlies office at the arena.

Nick Guiney bagged the winner at the 7:27 mark of the final frame in game 6, just 29 seconds after Jamie Rome converted a Cody Van Lierop pass on the power play for the 3-3 goal.

Guiney added an insurance goal with 45 seconds to go, with the Kings pushing for the tying goal.

Cam Donaldson and Josh Coblenz scored for the Kings in the first period, when the locals outshot the Grizzlies 19-7.

Victoria turned things around in the second, firing 21 shots at Kings goalie Brian Wilson and getting a goal 7:10 in from Tyler Welsh.
