The third BCHL—Five Hole for Food Challenge presented by First West Credit Union starts this weekend in Cowichan Valley.
Once again, each BCHL club will host a night this season for fans, supporters and sponsors to try and raise the most food and donations for their local food bank.
“As we know, hunger is not a just seasonal obstacle for many families,” said BCHL communications director Brent Mutis in a league statement. “By going around our league through the whole season, we again plan to provide support for local food banks at times when they may not be receiving a lot of donations. Our league has made a big difference in each of the last two years and with extra support from First West Credit Union, we hope to make an even bigger collective contribution this season. The addition of a new franchise in Wenatchee makes this goal even more realistic.”

The Powell River Kings were last year’s BCHL – Five Hole for Food Challenge champions with 10,500 pounds raised.
First West Credit Union is a proud community partner of the BCHL and its Five Hole for Food Challenge.
“First West adopted the problem of hunger and food security as its signature cause in March 2010 and since then over $1.2 million have been raised for food banks across British Columbia,” said Susan Byrom, senior manager of community investment at First West Credit Union. “Our divisions—Envision Financial, Enderby & District Financial, Island Savings and Valley First—love supporting local food banks in our communities. By partnering with the BCHL, we can extend our reach to make an even bigger difference for the food banks that assist more than 97,000 British Columbians each month.”
Five Hole for Food is a national non-profit organization. Each summer, the FHFF team goes coast to coast across the country holding huge street hockey tournaments to raise food donations and over the last five years, more than one million pounds has been raised by these events.
