A familiar face is back behind the bench of the Columbia Bible College Bearcats men’s basketball team.

Rod Adrian, who had his first college basketball head coaching job with CBC back in the 1992-93 season, is set to return to the club starting in the fall.

“I am thrilled to once again join the coaching staff at CBC,” he stated in a press release. “I’ve had the privilege to coach at many different levels with my most recent collegiate coaching role at Briercrest College, leading that team to an overall record of 38 wins and 25 losses. That experience provided me with some great experiences, which I am hoping to duplicate in this role.”

Adrian spent this past season as the head coach of the Abbotsford Panthers senior boys basketball team and coached Briercrest from 2011 to 2015. He was selected as the 2012-13 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference coach of the year when he helped lead Briercrest to a regular season record of 19-1, the best in club history.

Adrian is also the executive pastor at Cedar Heights Church in Abbotsford.

He replaces Matthew Boulton, who announced his resignation as head coach on April 30 after three years at the helm of the club. The men’s team compiled a record of 5-52 during his time behind the bench.

Boulton said that, despite the lack of on-court success, he enjoyed his time at CBC.

“Coaching in the Pacwest was a great joy, and to be able to do it at CBC was such a fulfilling experience for me,” he stated. “I am grateful for having the chance to collaborate on the culture of Bearcat’s athletics and to help bring a competitive spirit back to the program.”

Adrian and the Bearcats kick off the Pacwest season in October.
