Bearcats reloaded: Newcomers, returnees bolster CBC men’s volleyball roster

Some familiar faces in that mix have the Columbia Bible College men's volleyball team dreaming big for next season.

The Columbia Bible College men’s volleyball program announced its crop of 2013 recruits last week, and some familiar faces in that mix have the Bearcats dreaming big for next season.

In addition to a four-member freshman class, head coach Phil Wiens is welcoming back left side Will Quiring and setter Jason Warkentin. Both players starred on the Bearcats’ 2011 national championship-winning team, and both are returning after one-year absences.

The new recruits include Jeremy Lieuwen, Taylor Klassen, Brendan Folkerts and Leigh Goossen.

Lieuwen, who initially committed to the Bearcats in 2012 after graduating from Mennonite Educational Institute, is a 6’3” left side who was twice named MVP of the AA provincial high school championships with the Eagles.

Klassen, a 6’2” left side out of Linden, Alta., recently captained the 403 Selects volleyball club to gold at the 18U Div. 2 national championship.

Folkerts, a 6’3” right side out of Winnipeg, was named player of the game in the AAAA Manitoba provincial finals as his Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute won the gold.

Goossen, a 6’6” middle from Kelowna, is regarded as one of the top players at his position in B.C.
