Bears battle Voodoos in season finale

B.C. high school football regular campaign wraps up Friday at the Apple Bowl

With playoff spots hanging in the balance, all three Central Okanagan teams be taking to the field at the Apple Bowl Friday to wrap up the B.C. high school football regular season.

At 4 p.m., the KSS Owls (1-5) will battle the Terry Fox Ravens (4-1)

Then at 6:30 p.m., local rivals Mt. Boucherie Bears (1-5) and Rutland Voodoos (0-6) will square off for their lone meeting this season.

“It should be a great game,” said Voodoos coach Pete McCall. “Mike Godwin has dialed his bears into a tremendous football program over the years. They are always well coached, savvy and disciplined. I think both teams are looking forward to this interior classic matchup which has playoff implications.”

Last Friday, the Voodoos put up a fight before going down to defeat 44-28 to Centennial.

Rutland’s Mitchel Walz scored twice on QB dives from 1 yard out, Tony Nyugen had 26 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown, while Matt Walz 95 yards receiving and a TD. Cory McCoy five solo tackles and a sack on defense.

In other action, W.J. Mouat beat KSS 48-6, while the Bears lost 33-0 to St. Thomas More.
