A disappointing loss for the Ghostriders was the result of several miscalculations and misplays late in the game.
Coach Jeff Wagner says he wouldn’t classify the game as unlucky, as a team creates their own luck. On Friday night, he said, they didn’t create any.
The final result of their match-up against Beaver Valley was 7-5 for the visitors.
“All credit to Beaver Valley, they came out, they stuck with a game plan, and quite frankly, we didn’t,” said Wagner.
Beaver Valley and Fernie were very close in score before heading into Friday’s match, with each team hovering around 32 points. Now Beaver Valley sits two points ahead of Fernie in the KIJHL, putting Fernie in eighth.
Despite putting five points on the board, an abandonment of the defensive zone left the Ghostriders prey to an onslaught of pressure from the Nitehawks.
On two separate occasions, coach Wagner saw two of his forwards change out when the puck was in their zone. He said at this level, that’s completely unacceptable.
“It just shows a lack of focus in our group,” he said.
“So now it’s back to the drawing board and making sure that we learn from this and become better.”
The following night, the Ghostriders faced the Golden Rockets away in Golden, and tied at three.
The Ghostriders are back in Fernie on Friday where they will once again take on the Golden Rockets. This will serve as the final game of 2018, come out and make some noise!
