The Beaver Valley Nitehawks knocked off Eddie Mountain Division rivals Creston Thunder Cats and Fernie Ghostriders on the weekend.
A deluge of second period goals marked a 3-2 win over Creston Friday, before the Nitehawks rolled over the Ghostriders 4-0 on Halloween Saturday to make it eight wins in a row for the streaking Hawks.
Nitehawks defenceman McKoy Hauk netted his third of the season, scoring at 17:17 into the second period for what proved to be the winning goal with assists to Dylan Heppler and Blake Sidoni. Devin Ghiradosi made it 2-0 on the power play before the period was out, then added his seventh of the season five minutes into the third period for a 3-0 lead.
Tyler Hartman added a shorthanded marker into an empty net with 1:46 to play. B.V. outshot Fernie 33-28 and went 1-for-5 on the power play while Fernie was 0-for-4.
Beaver Valley goalie Tallon Kramer earned his second shutout of the season with 28 stops Saturday and was player of the game for the Nitehawks.
In Friday’s match up against Murdoch division leading Creston, the teams scored all the goals in the second period with Devin Nemes netting the winner at 6:54 of the middle frame to break a 2-2 tie. Creston outshot B.V. in a scoreless first period 12-9, but the NItehawks came out hard in the second with Kyle Hope and Tyler Hartman putting the Hawks up 2-0 less than three minutes in, before Creston came back to tie it on a pair of goals from Tyler Bergh.
Shots on goal were even at 29 apiece, with Kramer getting star of the game nod for the Hawks and Creston’s Bergh for the Thunder Cats
The Nitehawks play in Nelson on Friday then return home for a tilt against the Kootenay Conference champion Kimberley Dynamiters at the Hawks Nest on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
