February was a busy month of competitions for athletes from the Liquid Lightning Swim Club.
Four Liquid lightning Swim Club members swam their way to 13 best times at the AA provincial championships held Feb. 13 to 15.
Georgia Pengilly, 13, went four for five on best times. She took five seconds off her 200 metre backstroke and made the final where she placed fifth with a new AAA provincial time standard.
Marc Toyata, 14, swam a best time in the 200m individual medley to qualify for finals where he placed seventh. He made consolation finals in the 100m butterfly and the 50m freestyle.
Christina Wright, 13, went five for six on best times and made consolation finals in the 50 and 100 free events.
Sara Roggeveen, 15, earned a personal best.
Eight Lightning travelled to Edmonton to face off against the best in the west at the 2015 Speedo Western Canadian Long Course Open Feb. 19 to 22.
Bree Cooper, 17, swam to a silver medal in the 100m breast. Cooper got in several second swims including making the A final in the 50m breast and 50m fly.
Kyra McNulty, 15, swam all best times and just missed the podium in the 50 back with a fourth place finish. She also made finals in the 100 back and the 200 back.
Christina Russo, 19, finished fourth in the 50 fly and placed seventh in the 100 fly for a seventh place finish.
Liz Aguiar, 17, made the consolation finals in the 200-m individual medley and the 400m I.M.
Craig Mathieson, 16, made the consolation finals in the 50 and 100m breast events.
Jessica Forbes, 17, made the consolation final in the 50 fly.
Gabrielle Hanvold and Bryce Molder recorded best times.
Lightning swimmers notched 99 best times at the Vernon Winter Splash held Feb. 28 to March 1.
Liam Collie, 9, swam all best times. He crushed his 200 I.M., taking off 27 seconds for a 3:50.86 which qualifies him for regional meets. Collie also lopped 21 seconds off his 200m freestyle for a third place finish.
Taylor Smith, 11, swam to eight best times including taking eight seconds off her 200m I.M. for a 2:52.18, breaking a four-year old club record and taking first place. She swam to a new AAA qualifying time in the 400-m freestyle with a first place finish. Smith won the 100 I.M., 50 free, 200 free and 100 fly.
Ava Toyata, 10, swam to all best times. She won the 50-m. breast with a club record 46.07. Toyata swam to AA standards with wins in the 50 free and the 50 back. She was first in the 100 breast and 200 I.M.
This was Aubree Fillion’s first swim meet.
Olivia Dorantes-McCarten, Sydney MacFarlane, Diana Trif and Jacklyn Pengilly earned 100 per cent best times.
Sara Roggeveen, 15, won her 200 free, 400 free, 100 fly and 100 free.
Georgia Pengilly, 13, swam eight best times and finished second in the 50 back.
Marc Toyata, 14, won the 200 free with a best time, Kaitlyn Luchka, 12, won the 50 breast.
Janae Hoel, 15, won the 50 free.
Smith, Luchka, Marc Toyata and Trif teamed up to win the 200m medley relay.
Paige Allan, 10, went three for four on best times and swam to second in her 50 fly.
Cam McConechy, 15, swam to six best times and took nine seconds off his 400 free to place second.
Ashlinn Salverda, 11, swam three best times including taking 14 seconds off her 100 IM. Her sister Rowan swam three best times and took 17 seconds off her 400 free.
Enrica Guidi, 10, swam six best times and took 16 seconds off her 200 IM.
Victoria Koehle, Emma MacKenzie, Ryan Scott, and Quin Toyata recorded personal best times.
Other notable swims were made by Angelina Barkley.
