Salmon fishing in Sooke is at its best, with good chances at landing decent sized chinook salmon in large numbers now.

Chinooks averaging 13 to 18 pounds are being landed by sports fishers trolling at Otter Point, Possession Point, Secretary Island, Trap Shack and Beechy Head on a daily basis.

Most popular depths are 45 to 65 feet in the early morning, moving down to 85 to 105 feet by mid day.

Remember Otter Point West to Port Renfrew is closed to sport fishing, but there are plenty of open areas to the east of Otter Point.

Many Cod species, halibut and crab are also open for fishing in the Sooke area.

Better weather conditions with lower winds and more sunshine have brought more fishers out. Try fishing very early morning or later evening, or earlier in the week to avoid fishing congestion.
