Big game from Ryan leads Kodiaks to victory

Aldergrove junior B hockey team wins fourth straight, 5-3 over Port Moody Panthers

Joshua Cronin and Stephen Ryan scored third period goals to break the deadlock as the Aldergrove Kodiaks prevailed 5-3 for their fourth straight victory.

The Kodiaks were on the road at Port Moody Arena against the Port Moody Panthers on Oct. 26.

The junior B hockey teams were tied at three after 40 minutes, despite Aldergrove holding a 41-11 shot advantage. But the third period was all Kodiaks as they had as many goals as the Panthers did shots in the final 20 minutes.

After Port Moody’s Kurt Sonne opened the scoring, Ryan tied the game at one in the first period. Aldergrove opened the second with goals from Adam Callegari and Kenny Prato 1:43 into the second, but the Panthers responded with goals from Sammy Zeinab and Wolfgang Schoenefuhs to even the score heading into the third.

The line of Ryan (two goals, two assists), Prato (one goal, three assists) and Adam Callegari (one goal, two assists) did the bulk of the damage for the Kodiaks as they finished with four goals and 11 points.

Tate Sproxton picked up the win in goal.

He replaced Cole MacInnes after the second Port Moody goal and stopped three of the four shots he faced over the final 27:16.

Alexander Orth made 45 saves on 50 shots for the Panthers.

The Kodiaks are next in action on Oct. 30 as they host the Richmond Sockeyes at the Aldergrove Arena.

Aldergrove sits second in the PJHL’s Harold Brittain Conference with a record of 10-4-0-0.
