Big Lake Fishing Derby hooks big crowd

There was a wonderful turnout for the Big Lake Fishing Derby during the weekend

There was a wonderful turnout for the 35th Annual Big Lake Fishing Derby during the weekend with more than 180 registrations and great fishing weather.

A huge thank you to all the sponsors who generously donated cash and prizes to make this such a successful derby.

The cook shack was open all weekend serving amazing breakfast sandwiches, burgers, taco in a bag, chili and buns and Uncle Paul’s coffee.

Beer gardens were setup alongside the lake for those who wanted to share their fishing stories or just sit back and have a cold one.

There was a packed crowd at the dance on Saturday evening with local band Run Home Jack coming back by popular demand. A great time was had by all with 13 door prizes given away and a midnight snack offered.

The campgrounds were full with RVs, campers, tents on both the north and south side of the lake. We were amazed again at home clean and tidy all the campgrounds were after the derby weekend. Thank you, campers.

A huge thanks to the Fishing Derby Committee and also all the volunteers who helped throughout the weekend working in the registration/weigh-in tent, concession shack, beer gardens and at the dance.

Congratulations to the winner of the Polaris 570 Sportsman ATV raffle, Adam Plasun. We sold more than 1,800 tickets. A huge thanks to all those who bought and sold ATV tickets to support the Big Lake Community and a special thanks to Save-On-Foods, Walmart Superstore, Safeway, Canadian Tire, BC Livestock Association and the Lakers Car Club, who let us setup on site and sell tickets at their Spring Roundup.

Last, but not least, the staff at the Big Lake Store and Pub who sold dozens of books in their store.

All proceeds of the ATV Raffle, Derby and Dance will go toward upgrading the Big Lake Community Hall.
