Big start for Source Bantams

The Vernon Source For Sports Vipers were 2-0 after Friday night play at the Paul Brenner Memorial Bantam Tier 2 Hockey Tournament in Chilliwack.

Game MVP Eric Noren and Joe Eggert each pocketed 3+3 as the Vipers ambushed the Salmon Arm Silvertips 10-0 Friday night.

Dawson Chase, with a deuce, Kael Black and Lee Christensen rounded out the offence. Caden Bracken earned a pair of helpers.

Earlier Friday, captain Dylan Sedlacek scored twice as the Vipers brushed off the Yellowknife Wolfpack 7-3.

Eggert opened the Vernon offence five minutes in, while Noren made it 2-0 two minutes later on a shorthanded backhand, assisted by Eggert and Mika Burns.

Sedlacek, a d-man, pushed the lead to 3-0 on a point shot on the powerplay, from Damian Coljee-Fehr, with seven minutes left in the first period.

Yellowknife counted two quick powerplay snipes early in the third and tied it at 13:31 on an odd-man rush.

Chase converted a feed from Coljee-Fehr to make it 4-3 Vernon. Sedlacek hit Noren with a stretch pass and Noren fed a backhand to Eggert, who tucked in the puck for the 5-3 snipe.

Sedlacek buried a wrister from the point with Keeghan McRae earning the assist, while Nick Cherkowski completed the offence on a wrister, five-hole, from the top of the right circle. Forward Bracken enjoyed a stellar two-way showing for MVP.

In Bantam Tier 3 action Saturday morning, Nick Mitchell produced 3+1 as the Vernon Fix Auto Vipers grounded the Prince George CUPE Cougars 8-4 at Civic Arena.

Gavin Fleck, with a deuce, Lincoln Connor, Tanner Wright and Cole Johnston completed the Vernon offence in front of Dylan Blazek. Johnston added two helpers.

Trinity Robbestad (2), Ryder Langthorn and Ashton Kraska answered for the Cougars, who trailed 5-0 midway through the first period.

In Friday night Tier 3 mini tournament play, Sean Howard bagged goals two minutes apart late in the third period as the Vipers rallied to tie the West Kelowna Warriors 3-3 at Civic Arena.

Dayton Bryan drew assists on both Howard snipes, while Fleck opened Vernon’s attack on a nifty pass by Lucas Halvorson.

Scott McClarty, Zach Cooper and Noon Russett replied for West Kelowna.

The West Coast Avalanche shut down the Thompson Okanagan Lakers 4-0 in B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey League play Friday night at Civic.

The second-place Avs improved to 18-6-1, while the fourth-place Lakers dipped to 11-12-2. Sydney Carter of Kamloops was in net for the Lakers.

The same teams finish a three-game weekend series today (10:45 p.m.) at Kal Tire Place.
