Black Knights hand Yellow Jackets first Pee Wee loss

The Black Knights shaded Yellow Jackets 12-11 in an all-Vernon Pee Wee baseball showdown Wednesday at Creekside Park.

The Black Knights shaded the previously undefeated Yellow Jackets 12-11 in an all-Vernon Pee Wee baseball showdown Wednesday at Creekside Park.

In the first inning, the Yellow Jackets, sponsored by Interior Utility Management, got a beauty hit to right field from Eric Foufoulas, while the bottom of the first showcased hot box skills between Izaac Lowe and Emily Wilson. Jackets’ pitcher Kalvin Blaeser tossed a strong final inning, allowing only two runs, but the Black Knights, sponsored by the Fraternal Order Of Eagles, pulled out the win.

In Bantam action Tuesday at Marshall Field, the Vernon Cold Stone Creamery Canadians outgunned Kelowna 9-2.

Vernon starter Kyle Ciurka struck out the side in the first inning, ending with five strikeouts. Landon Curry also struck out the side in his first inning of pitching, fanning six batterse overall.

Ciurka and Isaac Walkemaras each had two RBI in what turned out to be a game of unearned runs, lots of walks, strong base stealing and heads-up baseball for Vernon.
