For the first time since opening day, the Langley Blaze were on the short-end of a score.
The U18 baseball team won their first three games of the weekend before falling 3-0 on Sunday afternoon to see their 17-game winning streak come to an end.
The Blaze, who lead the B.C. Premier Baseball League with a record of 17-2, were in Victoria over the weekend, sweeping the Victoria Mariners on Saturday 4-0 and 1-0 before splitting with the Victoria Eagles 8-4 and 3-0 on Sunday.
The weekend began with another gem from Kyle Ross, who has yet to allow a run this season in 26 innings pitched.
Ross improved to 4-0 with a two-hit shutout, striking out 11 along the way.
Mitchell Robinson and Brendan Halstrom both had RBI doubles and Connor Chorpita had the other RBI. Kyle McComb also had a double as three of Langley’s five hits went for extra-bases.
Saturday’s second game saw Luke Horanski drive in the game’s only run in the top of the first inning.
That was enough offence for Cooper Misic who was two outs away from a complete game. Misic surrendered seven hits and one walk and struck out two, but no runs as he improved to 4-0.
Jonathan Keltie came on two nail down the final two outs with they tying run on third base.
Against the Eagles, Langley had to rally from an early 4-0 hole as Victoria scored four times in the bottom of the first inning.
But Kurtis Horne settled down from that point and allowed no more runs the rest of the way.
Brendan Halstrom fueled the offence with two doubles and four RBIs.
The second game saw the Eagles take advantage of the base-on-balls to score three runs in a 3-0 victory. Victoria scored once in the first and twice in the second of Kristjan Storrie.
Ryan Braun came on in relief and allowed just one hit over five innings but the Blaze bats mustered just one hit themselves.
Langley is back in action on Friday (May 16) as they travel to Abbotsford’s Delair Park to face the Cardinals (8-6).
The team then hosts the North Shore Twins (9-3) in a doubleheader at McLeod Park on May 17. First pitch is noon.
