Blaze closing in on top spot

Langley U18 baseball team leads BCPBL with 36-6 record

The Langley Blaze made it nine wins in a row with an 8-2 victory over the North Delta Blue Jays.

The U18 baseball teams were playing at Mackie Park on June 19 with the win improving Langley to 36-6 and top spot in the B.C. Premier Baseball League.

Justin Lawrence fueled the Blaze attack, finishing the game with three hits — including a pair of doubles — three RBIs and three runs scored.

Mitchell Robinson and Nick Rutckyj drove in a pair of runs apiece as well.

Mason Cratty had the other Langley RBI.

On the mound, Connor Kenwood pitched a complete game three-hitter, allowing just the two runs while striking out 10.

The Blaze hold a eight and a half game lead for top spot. They need three wins in their final six games — or for the Victoria Mariners and North Shore Twins to lose three games — to clinch top spot.

Langley is scheduled to play a pair of doubleheaders this weekend at McLeod Park. On June 22 they host the Victoria Eagles and on June 23 it is a twin-bill against the Mariners.

And while Langley finishes their league play on June 25 — barring rainouts — both the Mariners and Twins have 15 and 16 games, respectively, remaining.

The BCPBL regular season is slated to conclude on July 16.
