Blaze pitch another shutout

The Langley Blaze received a pair of stellar pitching performances as they swept both ends of a season-opening doubleheader against the Abbotsford Cardinals. Tom Robson struck out nine as the Blaze won the opener 5-0. Devon Stewart took the mound in the second game and also fanned nine batters in a 3-0 win.

Another game, another shutout victory for the Langley Blaze.

The U18 Premier Baseball League powerhouse improved to 3-0 on the season after posting their third straight shutout, this time 10-0 over the White Rock Tritons.

The teams squared off on Tuesday night at McLeod Park, in the Blaze’s home opener.

Dustin Houle did the bulk of the damage, going 2-for-2 and driving in five runs,

Justin Atkinson was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs.

Ricky Bertrand, with a pair, and Jerod Bartnik, drove in the other runs.

Kyle Joel went the distance, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out eight as the game was called after five innings.

The team is in Victoria on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Mariners (1-1) before returning home for a Sunday twin-bill against the Nanaimo Pirates (2-0).
