Blaze win streak snapped at 22 games

Langley U18 baseball team sports 22-4 record after splitting doubleheader with North Delta

A weekend split stopped the Langley Blaze’s winning streak at an impressive 22 games.

The U18 baseball club beat the North Delta Blue Jays 11-4 before losing game two by a 9-6 score. The games were played on Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park

In the opener, the Blaze broke open a 2-0 game with four runs in the third and five in the fourth to take a commanding 11-0 lead.

Andre Pelletier led the offence with three hits and three RBIs, including a triple.

Griffin Andreychuk and Nick Rutckyj both had a pair of RBIs, while Justin Lawrence, Mason Cratty and Brendan Holstrom drove in one run apiece.

Kyle Ross picked up the win, allowing a single hit over four innings.

He improved to 7-0 with a 1.14 earned run average.

The second game saw North Delta build a 9-2 lead after five innings. The Blaze did claw back with a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not complete the comeback, falling 9-6.

Shoma Sasaki, Mike Dagg, Mason Verge, Andreychuk and Cratty drove in one run apiece.

Kristjan Storrie took the loss, falling to 4-1 on the season.

He allowed four runs, two of which were earned, over three innings, while striking out five.

The Blaze will look to return to the win column when they visit the Vancouver Cannons on May 28 at Queen’s Park.

Langley leads the B.C. Premier Baseball League with a 24-4 record.
