Blue Giants top Red Giants in Chilliwack atom battle

Week three of the minor football season also saw the peewee Blue Giants lose a close one to Abby.

Chilliwack’s atom red and blue Giants battled at Townsend Park last weekend, with the Blue Giants taking a 38-18 decision.

The teams exchanged touchdowns in the first half.

Parker Grant found the end zone twice for the Red Giants with Myles Baker adding a long touchdown run.Dawson Holdridge and Owen Franklin made great blocks to give Reds QB Kingston Moran time to complete passes.

Landon Keddy and Jackson Gamboa punched it in for Blue.

The Blue Giants defense took over in the second half.

Tackles Cole Dempsey and Max Kiener stopped their foes from gaining yards up the middle, and linebackers Logan Sargent and Logan MacDonald made big tackles on the outside.

The Red Giants defense fought to the end.

Ryland Carey and Carson Breland smothered the Blue Giants receivers, leaving QB Logan Rainkie with no one to throw to.

The Blues added three more TDs in the second half, with Tyce Underwood following center Hunter Gamboa into the end zone for the final major of the day.

Chilliwack’s peewee White Giants hosted the Meadow Ridge Knights under the Friday Night Lights at Townsend Par, with the visitors taking a 28-0 decision.

The Giants got strong runs by backs Rylan Janke, Drake Rae and Reid Olson.

On the other side of the ball, defensive end Aaden McAlary tallied two quarterback sacks while teammates Evan ‘Moose’ Tiessen and Thales Chappell produced several bone-jarring hits.

The peewee Blue Giants lost a home field heartbreaker to the Abbotsford White Falcons, losing 18-15 last Saturday at Townsend Park.

Annalia Alton led the defence with five solo tackles and showed incredible effort on every play. Kenna Friesen and Ben Graff had outstanding days from their halfback and cornerback positions. Jake Pronick and Tim Bumby were run stopping machines on the defensive line. Team captain Denver Adam lead by example from his linebacker position, attacking the offence on every play and adding an interception.

On offence, Caleb Friesen found the end zone twice, both on spectacular ankle breaking runs. Wyatt Tutty, Malakai Hackansson and Austin MacDonald were dominant on the O-line. Quarterback Rylan Parks led the team with his calm and confident demeanor, and Evan Fawcett had a great game kicking the ball when required.
