Fernie’s own junior roller derby league, Avalanche City BombsQUAD will host their first home game of the season on Saturday, May 9 at the Fernie Memorial Arena. The league has invited other junior skaters from Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. All of the skaters will be split into two make-up teams, playing under the themed names of “zombies” and “vampires”. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m., and will be a family-friendly affair.
The BombsQUAD is a junior roller derby team, and skaters are all under the ages of 17, most of them younger than age 14. The team has already competed in two games this year, and is practicing hard to prepare for the scrimmage on May 9. They are very excited to be playing on home turf and to have their fans, friends and family come see them play.
For more information on the game, or to get involved as a skater or volunteer for the BombsQUAD, contact their coach, Heather Cullen, at bombsquad.frdl@gmail.com.
