Chilliwack’s Ethan Bowen boosted his major junior draft stock with a huge performance at the John Reid Bantam AAA Tournament, which was held Thursday through Sunday in St. Albert, AB.
Bowen played for Abbotsford’s Yale Hockey Academy Lions, who settled for silver after falling 5-4 to the Toronto Marlboros in the gold medal match.
Bowen had a goal in the loss.
He led the entire tournament in scoring, collecting an astounding 11 goals and 21 points in six games.
Bowen had six points (two goals) in Yale’s 9-0 opening win against the Colorado T-Birds, followed by a hattrick in a 5-2 win over OHA-Edmonton.
The teenager carried on with four points (one goal) in a 10-8 loss to the St. Albert Sables, four points (one goal) in a 6-1 win over the Calgary Bisons and three points (one goal) in a 4-2 win over the Lethbridge Golden Hawks.
Bowen was a tourney all-star and easy choice as tournament MVP.
Bowen will be a potential first overall pick when the Western Hockey League holds its annual bantam draft this spring. That would be a historic achievement for a Chilliwack Minor Hockey grad.
Ethan’s big brother Ryan is already playing in the WHL.
In his second ‘Dub’ season, the older Bowen has collected nine goals and 30 points in 38 games split between the Moose Jaw Warriors and Lethbridge Hurricanes.
