Three members of the Western Hockey League’s No. 1 team are celebrating Canada’s return to world junior hockey supremacy.
Kelowna Rockets defencemen Madison Bowey and Josh Morrissey, along with team president and GM Bruce Hamilton, were in Toronto Monday night as Canada defeated Russia 5-4 in the final of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.
It was Canada’s first gold medal at the event since 2009.
Bowey and Morrissey had four points each during the tournament, which saw Canada post a perfect 7-0 record.
Morrissey was acquired by the Rockets prior to Christmas but has yet to play a game with Kelowna.
Hamilton was part of Team Canada’s management committee for the second year in a row.
Bowey and Morrissey will join the Rockets for Saturday night’s game at Prospera Place against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
