Williams Lake youth bowlers were in action Sunday for Youth Bowling Canada’s 4 Steps to Stardom Zone Championships.Local boys teams travelled to Quesnel’s Rev Lanes to compete, while the girls played locally at Cariboo Bowl in their zone championship.Williams Lake’s senior division bowlers (aged 15-19) — Morgan Mailhiot, Tyler McLean, Dustin Morrison, Lee Pinchbeck and coach Sharon Atkinson — are headed to Kamloops to compete at the provincial youth bowling championships on March 4 after finishing first at zones.The team qualified ahead of Fort St. John, Smithers, Terrace, Dawson Creek and Vanderhoof to advance to provincials.“They’re really excited,” Atkinson said. “They were happy with the way they bowled. For Morgan, this is his last year in youth bowling so he’s really looking forward to it.”Atkinson said the provincial-level competition will be a step up, but her team is looking forward to the challenge.“Now we’re competing against Vancouver and all the Interior so who knows?” she said. “They’re going to go down there and give it their best shot. If nothing else they’ll have fun doing it and I think they have just as good a chance as everyone else.”The Williams Lake junior boys (aged 10-14) — Cole Broen, David Matheson, Nathan Murphy, Jordan Murphy and coach Char Appleton — finished seventh.In the bantam division (aged 7-9), Thomas Burke, Bradley Clearwater, Ian Langford, Breck Stewart and coach Laurie Appleton, took fourth.Williams Lake’s junior girls team of Kaitlyn Hutchinson, Christina McLean, Kyry Morrsion, Victoria Page and coach Brent Morrison took silver, just behind Prince George’s Black Diamond Lanes for first place.
