Captain Cole Boyarski scored twice as the Vernon Watkin Motors Mustangs stopped the Prince George Cougars 4-1 in Okanagan Mainline Pee Wee Tier 1 Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at Kal Tire Place.
Brayden McAmmond and Corbin Hansen contributed singles for the Mustangs, while assists went to Scott Gilowski, Nicholas Teale and Steel Quiring. Cayden Hamming earned the win.
The Mustangs lost 5-3 to the Kamloops Jardine Blazers Saturday afternoon at Memorial Arena.
Trevor Kennedy opened the scoring in Kamloops, assisted by Connor Elliot. The game was tied until the third period when Hansen converted twice, from Quiring.
The Blazers levelled the score 3-3 before netting the winner late in the third and adding an empty netter. It was a penalty-filled affair with Kobe Grant going the distance in the Watkin Motors’ net.
The Nixon Wenger Pee Wee Tier 2s lost 11-0 to West Kelowna Warriors and fell 10-2 to Kelowna.
Emma Elders and Isaac Thomas scored in Sunday’s loss to Kelowna at Priest Valley Arena.
The Kelowna Fripps Warehouse Rockets ambushed the Vernon Home Building Centre Vipers 8-0 in Midget Tier 1 league play Saturday.
The Rockets improved to 7-4-2, while the Vipers dipped to 1-9-2. The Vernon Midgets are in Prince George for three league games Saturday and Sunday versus the 6-3-1 Cougars.
The Tier 2 Coca-Cola Midgets bowed 7-3 to the South Okanagan Canucks Sunday at Kal Tire Place.
Bryton Stead, Riley Swiscoski and Julian Darkazanli scored in support of Billy Cawthorn. The Coke crew hold their home tournament starting Friday.
Nick Mitchell pulled the hat trick as Vernon Fix Auto Vipers doubled Kamloops 4-2 in Tier 3 Bantam play Saturday night at Memorial Arena. Mitchell has 32 goals in 27 games to lead Fix Auto.
Cole Johnson and Sean Howard helped set up Mitchell’s 2-0 and 3-1 goals. Gavin Fleck added an empty-netter with 10 seconds remaining, assisted by d-man Brett Zbytniuk.
Dylan Blazek and Dalton Stenberg shared the Vernon goaltending.
The Valley Wood Remanufacturing Vipers upended the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 6-2 in Atom Development Tier 1 action Sunday at the Shaw Centre.
Jace Weir, Cash Anderson, Bennett Kuhnlein, Erik Pastro, Scotty Hoffman and Austin Roest handled the Viper attack.
Weir, Anderson, Nick Noren, Brady Kuziw and Braden Schmiegelt chipped in with assists, while Austin Seibel was stellar in registering the win.
“The boys had a good week of practice and it paid off,” said Valley Wood coach Treor Seibel. “We controlled the play in the offensive zone, our defencemen were strong all night and our goaltending was solid. All in all, a very good effort.”
Vernon Atom Development B Vipers iced host Kamloops 7-4 Saturday at Memorial Arena.
Deagan McMillan had the hat trick, while J.J. Milne added 2+2. Colby Restiaux and Logan Killingbeck chipped in with singles while Zac Milne notched two assists. Brydon Pilon and Rylan Petty added helpers and Matthew Kuhnlein earned the win as Vernon exploded with a five-goal third period.
“The boys finally played a full 60 minutes and it paid off,” said head coach Mike Casagrande. “The effort was a strong one.”
Both Atom teams are in the Kelowna Classic this weekend.
