They threw more than enough strikes to win a B.C. championship, and now they’ll look for more as they bowl against Canada’s best.
Selena Spracklin and Cheyenne Walker made Brechin Lanes history in March as the first senior girls’ team to win a Youth Bowling Canada B.C. title, taking gold at provincials on the Lower Mainland.
“I knew the girls that we were bowling against and I knew that they were very good bowlers, but with the new system of match play, this is when it really came out for us that we realized after the first couple of games that we really have a chance at this,” Spracklin said.
The pair continued to bowl well enough together that they had sewn up the B.C. title even before their final game.
“We’re the first senior girls from Brechin to go to nationals, so it’s it’s a pretty cool opportunity to go represent Brechin Lanes, Vancouver Island and B.C.,” said Walker, who is in her final year of youth bowling eligibility.

YBC championships start Sunday, May 5, in Oshawa, Ont.
Coach Wendy Boudot has coached bowlers at nationals before and said the mental side of the game is critical at nationals.
“They have to keep their cool; they have to stay calm,” she said. “They can’t get down on themselves because that’s what a lot of other teams do.”
Spracklin and Walker will bowl 21 games over three days, but they feel they can keep focused and competitive during that time. The competition will be serious, but they’ll enjoy it.
“Of course we’re there to compete and if we do well it would be great to bring home a medal, but if we don’t, we’re there to have fun and we got to go, right?” Walker said.
