Lake Country Tree Brewing FC grounded Vernon Kal Tire 2-1 Thursday night at MacDonald Park,
The Lakers moved to 4-5, while the defending playoff champion Tiremen dipped to 3-6 in the Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League
Midway through the first half, Kal Tire was awarded a free kick when forward Glenn Allan was leveled.
Ryan Sharp stepped up and hit a great shot over the wall and just under the cross bar to open the scoring.
At 35 minutes, Lake Country got a good run started down the wing and the ball was fed across the goal for an easy tap in.
Play went back and forth in the second half until a penalty was called in the 75th minute when Sharp was called for an incidental hand ball. Forward Kelly Sherman finished the penalty for the winner.
Kal Tire pushed late but just couldn’t find a way to get the ball in the net.
The Tiremen host the last-place Company FC Thursday (6:30 p.m.) at Mac Park.
Both Vernon teams in the Okanagan 55 league suffered losses Thursday night.
The Silver Stars lost 3-1 to Westside at Rosewood Field with Wasylyk converting late in the game for the Stars (4-3-1).
Stellar second- half goalkeeping came from Al Bensmiller. Westside went to 8-0.
The North Country Kickers parlayed a Neil MacNeil hat trick into a 7-0 ambush of Vernon Kal Tire at Mission Sportsfield #10.
Will Kruiper and Matt Cherrille added deuces for the 5-3 Kickers, who had Pat Arneri in net. Kal Tire fell to 3-4-1.
Sir Winston’s Attack rallied hard for a 4-3 win over the OTC Sistas in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division II play Thursday night.
Striker Brandi Wejr used speed and agility to score twice for the Attack, while after a hard-fought first half playing goal, Celine Conly recorded two clutch goals in the final 40.
Tammy Dar played an exceptional game on defence, while Azra Cawley was reliable as always in goal for the second half.
Most Sportsmanlike Player went to Laurie Chickloski for her tough, fair and friendly play.
Diane Neudorf pocketed a pair of goals for the Sistas, while Tania Wirachowsky connected on a long shot off a pass from defender Michelle Mulholland.
