Brick House Betties in action Sunday

Local roller derby team takes on The Riot Girls from Vancouver

Have you been hearing about roller derby and wondering what all the hype is about? Well, the Comox Valley Brick House Betties want you to come check it out and see for yourself.

“Roller derby is the fastest growing female sport in the world and the Comox Valley is no exception, having two teams of its own. This all-female sport is not what you remember from the ’70s with its choreographed hits,” points out a spokesperson from the Betties, “This is a full-contact sport with real athletes engaging in real hits and using real strategies.”

This Sunday, June 3, the Brick House Betties invite everyone to come check them out while they take on Vancouver’s Terminal City Roller Girls house team, The Riot Girls.

The game will be at Sports Centre Arena #1; doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the whistle blows at 1:30 p.m. This is a family friendly event and will feature prize raffles, a 50/50 draw and a special appearance by the Brick House Betties Juniors. Admission is by a minimum $5 donation and children 12 and under are free.

“We hope to see you there supporting local roller derby!” the Betties’ spokesperson said.
