More than a dozen people will chalk up job experience at this summer, thanks to a new partnership with the Nanaimo 2014 B.C. Summer Games Society.
Through the Job Creation Partnership program, the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation has provided $62,210 to help up to 14 people gain work experience ranging from office administration and warehouse operations to co-ordinating accommodations and promotions.
A torch-lighting ceremony at Maffeo Sutton Park Friday involved six workers from the partnership project.
Job creation partnerships are a component of community and employer partnerships introduced as part of the Employment Program of B.C. in April 2012.
To date, more than 80 community and employer partnerships have been paid for throughout the province, providing work experience for more than 290 job seekers.
