Bronze for Heat

The 2005 Kelowna Heat bagged the bronze medal at their Blast hockey tournament.

The Heat opened with a 14-1 thrashing of the NWT All-Stars. They then tied West Kelowna 5-5 and lost to the Vancouver Warriors 6-5.

The Heat finished second in their pool and earned a semifinal date with the Calgary Spartan Yotes.

After getting down 4-0 early in the second period, Austin Seibel of Vernon came on in relief and helped settle the team down by shutting out the Yotes with some outstanding saves.

The Heat lost 4-1  and then and drew a rematch with the Vancouver Warriors for the bronze medal.

After a strong showing through the first four games, Seibel drew the start and helped propel the Heat to a 5-3 win with superb goaltending.   Vernon’s Erik Pastro contributed 1+1 on the weekend and was a force on the penalty kill and was relentless with his aggressive two-way play.
