Bronze medal for The Other Team

Langley fastpitch squad shows well at BC senior D women's provincial championships at Noel Booth Park

The difference between the gold and bronze medals was very slim for a Langley fastpitch team.

The Other Team wound up with the bronze but can take solace in the fact they won by the mercy rule against the gold-medal winners while losing by just a single run to the silver medal team in earlier contests.

The teams were competing at Noel Booth Park at the BC senior D women’s fastpitch championships.

Nine teams took part in the competition from Aug. 5 to 7.

The Other Team was seeded third after the round robin heading into the double knockout stage.

They opened with a 12-9 win over the Coquitlam Reds thanks to a 3-for-4 performance at the plate from Devon Chubey, which included a double and two RBIs.

Katie Flach was solid on the mound in game two, a 9-1 mercy-rule win over the Fleetwood Devils, the eventual provincial champs.

The third game was a defensive battle with Casey Openshaw-Yee providing great defence at shortstop, which helped limit the Richmond Mustangs to three runs. Unfortunately for the Langley squad, they managed just two runs in the 3-2 loss.

And back up against the Devils with a shot at advancing to the gold-medal game against Richmond, The Other Team was on the wrong end of a 6-3 score.
