The BCHL champion Prince George Spruce Kings fell one win shy in their bid for a national title.
The Spruce Kings fell 4-3 to the Alberta Junior Hockey League champion Brooks Bandits Sunday in the final of the 2019 RBC Cup tournament.
The Bandits scored three times in the first period and held off a late charge from PG.
The Spruce Kings cut into the lead midway through the final frame on a goal by Nick Poisson and got within one on a deflection goal by Nolan Welsh, scored with just 45 seconds on the clock.
PG goalie Logan Neaton came to the bench for the extra attacker but Brooks held on.
The Bandits are the fourth host team to win in the last five years, following the Portage Terriers (2015), Cobourg Cougars (2017) and Chilliwack Chiefs (2018).
