Ella Brown of Armstrong is the Athlete of the Week at Simon Fraser University following her performance at the 2014 Emilie Mondor Invitational in Burnaby.
Brown, a freshman, won the triple jump competition in a jump of 11.41 metres. Her distance was both a meet and stadium record. She had six jumps and managed to get five in, going fault, 11.00m, 11.33m, 11.41m, 11.28m and 11.37m
She currently boasts the second farthest distance of any triple jumper in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and is less than 20cm from a provisional qualifying distance for the NCAA Division II Championships.
Said Brown on the SFU website: “I was a little nervous because I faulted my first jump, and last week (in California) I was having some trouble with faulting, so it went pretty well today. I’m happy with the result….I just want to be consistent and feel good about what I’m doing.”
Brown is at a California meet this weekend.
