Ridge Meadows Bruins players Joshua Ladd and Kyle Cameron combine for a crushing tackle against a Scribes ball carrier in third division men’s rugby action on Saturday at Trout Lake Park. The Bruins pulled off a rare win over the East Vancouver side.

Over the weekend both Ridge Meadows Bruins rugby teams were on the road, and pitted against teams they have struggled with in the past.

The men played against the Scribes in East Vancouver, and the women against the Seattle Saracens in Seattle.

The men managed to finally beat the Scribes in a match that kept both sides guessing until the final whistle was blown.

The Scribes are an intelligent team that plays to its strengths, kicking and manoeuvring the game around the field almost at will.

But despite dominant possession and field position, the Bruins were able to hang with them, and take home a win with a final try in the dying minutes of the second half.

The men got two tries from Paul Stanfield and one from captain Dustin Fletcher. Two of the three conversion kicks were made by Miller Thind.

The women were unable to come away with a win, falling once again to the only team to have beaten them since the spring of 2015.

The score was 78-7.

The women have their home opener this weekend. They take on the Surrey Beavers at Telosky Stadium at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The men are in Chilliwack. Their next home game will be Oct. 22.
