Bryan Pawlina signs with HarbourCats

Pitcher inks 10-day contract with Victoria's West Coast League baseball team

Local baseball player  Bryan Pawlina will be joining the Victoria HarbourCats Baseball Club for their inaugural season, under a 10-day contract with the group.

The HarbourCats and all teams in the West Coast League play a 54-game summer collegiate season.  The HarbourCats feature MLB prospects from many of the top college baseball programs in North America.  All WCL teams recruit players nationwide and are committed to developing aspiring pros.

There are 18 NCAA and Canadian schools represented on the HarbourCats roster. As several of the players committed for the season have not yet completed their NCAA playoffs, Pawlina was asked to help bolster the pitching staff with a 10-day contract and has joined the team in Victoria in preparation of their season opener on  Wednesday night. He is expected to take to the mound for a start on Friday evening against the Kelowna Falcons.

“We are extremely pleased to have Bryan join the club, as he had a tremendous year for the UBC Thunderbirds, picking up several awards in his freshman year including NAIA Cascade West Conference Pitcher of the Year, a golden glove award and first team all star honours,” a HarbourCats spokesperson said.

“We also like the fact that he is a Canadian as there are only three signed Canadians on the team and we appreciate his taking the time from his summer schedule to help us out with our opening home games of the season.”
