Bulldogs split weekend tilts

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are 1-1 after weekend tilts against the Cowichan Valley Capitals and Nanaimo Clippers.

The Bulldogs came out with guns blazing, notching three quick goals in the first period against the Clippers on Saturday night. Bulldogs took the game by a final score of 5-2.

Bulldogs Even Tironese, Evan and Jay Deo were named the game’s three all starts. Bulldogs forward Even Anderson was named player of the game.

Bulldogs goalie Jay Deo was sharp turning away 38 shots, while Clipper goalie Jarrod Schamerhorn stopped 29 of 34 shots. The Bulldogs were 2-9 on the power play while the Clippers went 0-7.

The game was a chippy affair particularly in the first and third periods, where the teams were assessed a total of 38 minutes in penalties for among other things spearing, fighting and a gross misconduct.

On Friday, the Bulldogs lost 6-4 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

The team faces the Capitals in Cowichan on Friday.
