A burger and beer night takes place on Saturday, March 19 in support of Liam Murray’s rugby exploits.

Murray, an elite rugby player, has been chosen to represent Canada in Ireland as part of a three-match tour with Canada’s under-18 squad.

They will play three games against Irish academy sides.

“Three games in eight days will be challenging not only physically, but mentally and emotionally,” said head coach Dean Murten.

“I know (the opposition) will be highly skilled and play at a very fast pace. We as a staff and a team are excited to take on that challenge.”

Twenty-six players make up the Canadian side.

“This is a massive part of the players’s development and for some of the athletes the first exposure to international rugby,” Murten said. “We can play and train as hard as we want in Canada but testing our skills, decision making and physicality against world class players is where we can learn the most.”

The team departs for Ireland on March 22 and flies back to Canada on April 3.

Each player needs to raise $3,200 to cover their kit, flight, accommodations and all meals.

The burger and beer fundraiser is set for March 19 at the Artful Dodger.

Tickets are $20 and include either a hamburger or veggie burger, fries and either a beer, highball or glass of wine.

There will also be a 50/50 draw, raffle for Vancouver Canuck tickets and jerseys, toonie toss and giveaways.

The Brookswood Country Band will perform.
