Burrard girls win at Adanac Challenge

The girls’ bantam, midget and junior teams competed at the Adanac Challenge Tournament and won medals in all divisions.

Maple Ridge Burrards minor lacrosse teams have had a successful start to the season.

Over the long weekend, the girls’ bantam, midget and junior teams competed at the Adanac Challenge Tournament in Coquitlam. The Ridge teams won medals in all divisions at this tournament, and all three local teams went undefeated during regular round robin play.

The bantam team defeated four challengers – Port Moody, Coquitlam 2, PoCo 2 and got a come-from-behind win against Burnaby.

The bantams then defeated PoCo in the crossover game, 9-2, and had a close win over Coquitlam 1, 6-5, to win the gold medal game.

MVP for the bantams was Paige Bell, while the workhorse winner was Karla Barteski.

The midget team went 3-0 during the round-robin against  Langley, Burnaby and New West 2.

In the crossover game, the team was involved in a fast-paced game that went back and forth and was tied 1-1 after regular play.  Near the end of an overtime period, PoCo scored for a 2-1 win.

During the bronze-medal game, the Burrard’s dispatched New West 2 with a 5-2 win.

MVP was Megan Kinna, while Megan Stewart was named workhorse for the midget team.

The juniors went 2-0 during round-robin play, with wins against PoCo and Port Moody.

During the crossover game, the team came up short, falling 8-3 to Coquitlam.

The team rebounded during the bronze-medal game, winning  7-3 over Poco.

Ashley Bull was named MVP, while the workhorse award went to Kyra Chidlow, who was tenacious on defence throughout the tournament.
