Burrards Best in the West
The Ridge Meadows Burrards U-16 field lacrosse team is the Best in the West after going undefeated at the annual Las Vegas high school lacrosse tournament earlier this month.
The tournament featured more than 90 teams from across North America.
Competing in Division 2, for Grades 10 and 11, the Burrards went 4-0 in their four-game round-robin series, beating teams from Nevada, Utah and Colorado to win their pool.
In the semi-final, the Burrards faced Judge Memorial from Salt Lake City, Utah, defeating them 8-1 thanks in no small part to the play of goalkeeper Tino Fera.
That set up a final with Henderson, Nevada, resulting in an easy 17-1 victory.
Coach Doug McQuarrie said everyone on the team stepped up their level of play for the tournament.
“My middies were so aggressive on every loose ball,” he said. “My two face-off players were at about 90 per cent on winning draws and my attack were scoring all weekend in waves.”
Team members include Brad Dolbec, James Baker, Kevan McQuarrie, Riley Glemnitz, Colton Winiarski, Tino Fera, Jesse Gillespie, Curtis Bellamy, Carter Kwast, Jake Gobillot, Lyndon Knuttila, Brett Kujala, Sam Wesalowski, Josh Raposo, and Eddie Lovsin.
