Burrards lose in Burnaby, face Adanacs on Sunday

The Maple Ridge Burrards suffered their second loss of the season, 8-7 to the Burnaby Lakers, on Tuesday night at Bill Copeland Arena.

The Maple Ridge Burrards suffered their second loss of the season, 8-7 to the Burnaby Lakers, on Tuesday night at Bill Copeland Arena.

In his first game in the WLA this season, Ben McIntosh led the Burrards with three goals and five points, and was named the game’s second star.

His teammate with the NLL champion Saskatchewan Rush, Jarrett Davis also had five points on a goal and four assists. Mass Symes also scored a pair.

The Burrards scored the first two goals of the game, but couldn’t break the Lakers’ momentum as the home team scored six straight goals and held a 6-2 lead until late in the second period.

The Burrards rallied and tied the game 6-6 on a power play goal by Luke Gillespie.

But Burnaby got the game-winner shorthanded and an insurance goal on the power play to win a tight game.

The player of the game for Burnaby was Maple Ridge’s Matt Beers.

The Lakers improved to 3-2 on the season, while he Burrards are 5-2-1, and still in first place.

There was one fight, between Burrard Travis Irving and Laker Mike Brascia, but none of the fireworks seen the last time these two teams met on May 29. That game saw 116 minutes in penalties assessed to both teams combined, in the last 15 seconds of overtime.

One of the combatants, Daniel Amesbury of the Burrards, has been handed a seven-game suspension by the league.

The Burrards host the Coquitlam Adanacs on Sunday at 6:45 pm. at Cam Neely Arena.
