As the Maple Ridge Burrards and Victoria Shamrocks square off in the WLA league championship series, the league is releasing its annual award winners, and Burrards have been honoured.
The first team all-star features goalie Frank Scigliano and forward Curtis Dickson.
Dickson’s impressive season saw him finish tied for third in the WLA in goals with 37, and eighth in points with 61, despite playing only 11 of his team’s 18 games. He was the league leader in scoring before leaving for the 2018 FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Isreal, where he helped Canada to silver.
Scigliano led the WLA in save percentage this season at .830, led the league in saves with 563, and was second in wins with eight.
The other first-team all-stars are Mike Messenger of New Westminster and Drew Belgrave of Nanaimo on defence, and Logan Schuss of New Westminster and Casey Jackson of Victoria at forward.
The second-team all-stars include goaltender Alexis Buque of New Westminister, defence Jordan Gilles of Nanaimo and Steve Prilio of Victoria, and forwards Chase Fraser of Nanaimo, Eli McLaughlin of Burnaby and Jesse King of Victoria.
Schuss also won the three-star award, and the league scoring title with 106 points.
Kaleb Toth of the Nanaimo Timbermen took coach of the year, and Tyler Pace of the Langley Thunder is rookie of the year.
