The 2014 Nelson Merchants Corporate Cup will take place at the Granite Pointe Golf Club on Sunday, July 13 with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
The event features teams of four players, placed in several divisions, based on the company they represent.
Divisions include automotive, sports, construction and supply, hospitality/foods and personal services.
“It’s going to be a great vat,” said Howie Ridge director at Granite Point.
“We had a list of businesses that have contributed various things to the golf course over the past few years. We made a list of those and other prominent businesses in the area. We then went out and made personal contact with each one,” he explained.
Ridge said it was interesting to notice that when he introduced himself to the various businesses, they almost all thought he was there to ask for money or sponsorship.
“As soon as I told them I wasn’t there to ask for anything, I’m here to give you something, they relaxed.”
Ridge called the tournament a chance to thank local companies for their ongoing support.
The fee to play has been dropped to only $40 per team, or $10 per player.
“And all of the money goes to prizes,” said Ridge.
While the event was created to thank businesses, it also provides another opportunity.
“It’s also a chance for the business people to say thank you to their employees,” by covering the entry fee and letting them enjoy a great day of golfing, said Ridge.
While he’s not sure what the response will be, Ridge said 30 teams would be considered a success and anything over that would be a “smashing success.”
