The Buy-Low Vixens went 3-1 at the Wenatchee Invitational Women’s Hockey Tournament at the Toyota Town Centre.
The Vixens featured two mother-daughter combinations in Derri-Ann Cooper/Brooke Berube and Christine/Cassie Bosworth. Mandy Christensen and her mom, Bernie Dwan (unable to make the trip) are the third such combo.
Brooke Berube scored the winner, assisted by her mom, as the Vixens blanked the Portland Cougars 2-0.
Cooper added insurance, assisted by Brooke and game MVP Christine Bosworth in front of Kristi Patton, who played net all four games.
Cooper, Morgan Zoethout and Cora Lee Hamilton supplied snipes as Buy-Low grounded the Portland Free Rangers 3-1.
UBC Thunderbird grad Kirsten Mihalcheon earned two assists and MVP was Patton.
In Game 3, Mihalcheon took MVP with two goals as Buy-Low stopped Seattle 5-3. Cooper, Leah Clarke and Vickie Taylor provided singles, while Berube pocketed three helpers.
The Vixens lost 2-1 in a shootout in their final game against the Portland Free Rangers.
Mihalcheon scored the equalizer with three minutes left to force the shootout. Bosworth bagged the assist. MVP was Morgan Zoethout.
Buy-Low received bold defence from the Bosworth girls, Zoethout and Clarke.
Meanwhile, the Vixens are 10-0 and leading the Armstrong Safe Hockey League nearing the Christmas break.
Zoethout is the league’s top pointgetter with five goals and 17 points, one point in front of Jane Sutton of the Lumby Mayhem.
Cooper is fifth with 7-6-13 in just five games, while teammate Coralee Hamilton is tied for 11th with 7-4-11. Nadene Keller of the Mayhem has 4-7-11. Hamilton and Keller have both played seven games.
Cassie Bosworth and Jennie Currie of Lumby have both compiled 6-4-10, while Zeena Defoor of the Mayhem has 5-5-10.
Michelle Embelton of Buy-Low is the leading goalie with a sparkling 0.72 GAA ad .951 save percentage. She is 4-0 with two shutouts.
The Mayhem are second in the eight-team league at 7-1, followed by the Salmon Arm Wildfire and ASHL Bees, both at 6-3.
The Vernon Rocket Stars are sixth at 3-7.
