The Buy-Low Vixens opened their season with two wins and a loss at the Armstrong Women’s Hockey Tournament last weekend.
While the three-time league champions were missing several key members, they played hard on and off the ice and put forward a valiant effort.
However, after a 6-6 regulation and overtime draw with league rivals Shuswap Storm, the battered and bruised Vixens lost the semifinal to the Storm in a strange one-man shootout.
Coralee Hamilton, Mandy Christensen, Morgan Zoethout, Amy Irvine, Derri-Ann Cooper, Jodi Tung, and Christine Bosworth supplied goals for the Vixens, while Cheryl Meier, Bernadette Dwan, Cassie Bosworth, Haley Silcocks, and Bobbie Jones set up plays and assists.
Michelle Embleton and Patti Hansen were strong in net. The Vixens are grateful to coaches Pat Stewart and Leah Mulvihill and to their gratuitous long-time sponsor, Buy-Low Foods.
