The Bulkley Valley Biathlon team attended the Biathlon BC Cup Races 3 and 4 in Vanderhoof on January 22 and 23. Coach Frank Guillon led a team of 10 youth and three adults, the largest of nine teams, and a significant percentage of the 57 competitors.

The team skied through crusty, fast snow conditions. Saturday’s BC Cup #3 saw first time Midget (under 10) Liam Tweedie win a Silver, just one second off first place. Angus Tweedie won a Bronze in the Junior Boys category and Danielle Weme earned a Bronze in the Senior Girls category, just 18 seconds shy of second place. Biathlon Director Peter Tweedie was surprised with a first place finish in the Recreation category.

Sunday’s BC Cup #4 Sprint race ended with first time Midget biathlete Lowell Hug bringing home a Bronze medal and Liam Tweedie winning Silver. Peter Tweedie managed to hold on to first place in the Rec category against a former national level skier.

“All our team members, young and old, put in a great effort and showed off the amazing sportsmanship so typical of Bulkey Valley skiers,” said Biathlon Director Peter Tweedie. “Every race is a learning experience and I think we all learned something and had fun in the process. A big thanks to the coaches and parents who made this trip possible.”
