Cam Levins established a Canadian record in the 10,000m track and field event at the 2015 Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore. on Friday, May 29.
He completed the race in 27:07.51 to finish in fourth place and surpass the previous Canadian record of 27:23.63 held by Simon Bairu of Regina since 2010. The time was a personal best by more than 20 seconds for the 26-year-old Black Creek runner.
Levins trains with the Nike Oregon Project in Portland, Oregon under the well-knwon coach Alberto Salazar. Levins competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games in both the 10,000m and 5,000m distances. Until Friday night, Levins was the second-fastest all-time Canadian in both events. This performance improved on his personal best time of 27:27.96. His 5,000m record is 13:15.19.
