The Campbell River Storm defeated the Victoria Cougars 4-2 on Sunday, their second win in a series of three games over the weekend.

The Storm outshot the Cougars 42-24 during the Sunday afternoon game, which took place at the Archie Browning Arena in Victoria.

Foster Martin opened scoring for the Cougars during a power play in the first period. The Cougars held their lead until midway through the second period, when the Storm’s Tyler Chyzowski tied it up.

Owen Christensen then pulled the Storm ahead with a goal late in the second period, amid a series of penalties that frequently left the Cougars short-handed.

Another Cougar power-play goal, this one by Mateo Albinati, tied up the game in the third period. But the Campbell River team sealed the game after Josh Pederson and Noah Fladager scored during the last 10 minutes of play.

The victory in Victoria followed split results during a series of two homes games at the Rod Brind’Amour Arena on Froday and Saturday.

On Saturday, the Saanich Braves beat the Campbell River Storm 3-2 after the Braves scored two goals in the third period.

James Vince got things going with a goal for the Saanich team before the Storm’s Mike Dyck tied it up in the first period. Fladager netted a second-period goal and the Storm held their lead until late in the game.

The tide turned in the third period, when Dale McCabe put the puck in the net during a power play at 12:29. Moments later, Zach Guerra scored the game-winning goal for the Braves.

The final score was close, but the shots were not: the Braves fired at goalie Aaron de Kok 52 times, compared to the Storm’s 27 shots.

De Kok also served as goalie for the Victoria game, while Eric Samym was netminder during a Friday night game against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.

The Friday night game saw Campbell River win 9-1, with goals scored by Storm players including Christenen and Dyck, along with Damon Porter, Damon Kramer, Dawson Frank (twice), Zach Trempner and Radek Hewson (twice).

Only Rick Tadeka managed to produce a goal for the Glacier Kings during that punishing match, which left the Comox Valley team outshot by 49-11.

Correction: The photo caption in a previous version of this article stated that Eric Samyn was goaltender for the Storm during the Saturday night game; it was Aaron de Kok.
