The Vernon Cold Stone Creamery Canadians Pee Wee AA travel team opened their baseball season with a loss and tie.
The ice cream crew dropped a tough 10-3 decision to Kelowna #1 in their opener after giving up eight early runs.
The Vernon defence then settled in with Elliot Landy, Kaden Black and Kyle Ciurka taking the hill. Vernon was led offensively by Jacob Holland going 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs and Tyler Droder with a solid single in the third inning.
Game two saw the Cold Stone kids battle Kelowna #2 to a 4-4 tie in six innings.
Black scored in the top of the fifth inning to tie it after earning a lead-off walk. Black was busy at the plate, scoring twice and smacking a double.
The other highlight offensively was Jarett Campbell’s first-inning smash double. Vernon sent rookie Landon Currie to the hill first and he retired the side with the help of some stellar defence.
Holland and Landy also pitched with Tyler Droder blanking Kelowna team in the sixth.
The Anchor Inn Panthers doubled the Kal Tire White Sox 8-4 in Vernon Minor Baseball Pee Wee division action at Creekside Park.
Sage Shaw had two strong innings on the mound, while Chase McRae and Tiege Doughty also took the mound. Daymond Jassal went 2-for-2 at the dish.
Keefer Kaempf. Kyle Kerr and Dylan Oberle were on their toes in the infield, while Morgan Johnson Steel Sigurdson and Alex Laurils added strong arms in the outfield.
Nick Stelmachowich and Hunter Kriger added singles. Jesse Helmle was a wall behind the plate keeping the White Sox on the bases.
Jake Emmons came in to record a 10-pitch inning to shut down the side for the Panthers.
