The Vernon Canadians opened their Pee Wee minor baseball season with a 6-5 win over host the Kelowna Ramblers Tuesday at Lombardy Park.
Landon Currie got on base in the top of the second inning, then stole second before Nick Cherkowski, Keaton Mandryk, Ethan Huizinga and Dawson Chase all singled to give Vernon a five-run lead.
Kelowna responded with a single in their half of the second, and closed the gap with a monster three-run dinger courtesy of Randy Mason in the third inning.
The Canadians pushed ahead in the fourth when Currie was walked, then stole second and third and was brought home by a Cherkowski single to right field.
Chase, Cherkowski, King and Kadyn Thomas handled the Canadians’ pitching duty.
Vernon begins a weekend tournament tonight in Kelowna.
