Cancelled home opener followed by 11-1 win for the Revelstoke Grizzlies

The Revelstoke Grizzlies' regular season got of to a slow start on Saturday as the fans waited two hours before the game was canceled due to zamboni maintenance issues.

The Revelstoke Grizzlies’ regular season got of to a slow start on Saturday as the fans waited two hours before the game was canceled due to zamboni maintenance issues.

On Sunday, however the team came back with a vengeance, beating the Sicamous Eagles 11-1.

Azam Jiwa put the first regular season goal in the net for the Grizzlies’ just over two minutes into the game assisted by Jon Vandermolen and Ryan Bedard.

Five minutes later Kaeden Patrick scored goal number two assisted by Cody Flann and Tommy Bodtker.

Kaeden Patrick also scored the next goal, on a power play, less than two minutes later. Again assisted by Flann and Bodtker.

On a second power play with just under six minutes left in the first period, Rider McCallum scored goal number four for Revelstoke, assisted by Ethan Schaeffer and Ullar Wiatzka.

Less than 30 seconds later Cody Fiann scored goal number five assisted by Matt Cadden and Kaeden Patrick.

With 1:19 left in the first period Raymond Speerbrecker scored goal number six, assisted by Kreckin Erichuk.

The Grizzlies’ successfully killed one penalty in the first period, two minutes to Cadden for elbowing.

It wasn’t long into the second before Flann once again put the puck in the net. Less than two minutes into the period he was assisted by Bodtker and Ethan Rideout.

The Eagles answered three minutes later with their single goal of the game scored by Aaron Plessis, unassisted.

Wiatzka scored the final goal of the second period with 11:41 left to play, assisted by Brecklin Erichuk and David Lenzin.

The Grizzlies’ killed two powerplays in the second, one to Ryan Bedard for elbowing and one to Jon Vandermolen for roughing after the whistle.

They had three chances at powerplay goals but the Eagles held them at bay.

In the third period Ryan Pereverzoff scored goal number nine at 17:15 assisted by Ethan Schaeffer and Harrison Rosch. Carter Anderson scored the next goal, assisted by Wiatzka and Schaeffer.

With 38 seconds left on the clock, Carter Anderson scored a powerplay goal, assisted by Harrison Rosch and Rider McCallum.

The third period took a rough turn with four penalties for the Grizzlies and five penalties for the Eagles.

The Grizzlies’ next game is Sept. 21 in Princeton. The next home game is scheduled for Oct. 20.
